Bye to Facebook: Facebook changes its name to Meta

A few years back, we use to hear that Facebook is just a social media app and have the same views about other social media platforms that were most popular but later on, we heard that Facebook bought Instagram and Whatsapp.

That’s where Mark Zuckerberg took a boom and considered bringing all these social media platforms at one point. At that time, Facebook was the word that we commonly use as a company that owns WhatsApp and Instagram. But there was a need for a specific term that can explain Mark’s future ambitions and bring all these social media apps including Facebook under one name called “META”!

So, we can say Facebook has changed its name in order to reflect its intention to build the metaverse.

The name is only changed to a company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc. It doesn’t mean that the names of Facebook-owned apps/companies like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook have changed.

Check here the demonstration which explains in a graphical and better way.

The name change may depict Facebook’s new direction. The term metaverse may call as a fictional universe. The term is typically used to elaborate 3D virtual world that you can explore online using an avatar (a digital version of yourself) through virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR).

The main idea is to create an environment similar to the internet, where users through avatars can interact digitally with one another in real-time using modern technology.

Mark Zuckerberg, speaking at the live-streamed virtual and augmented reality conference, said the new name will depict their ambitions to build the metaverse, they are going to change the company’s name, not the social media platforms that the company owns.

Further More, Facebook refused to comment on “rumor or speculation.”

Mark Zuckerberg shared a video for a better understanding of the word “Meta”. Check out here
