The situation has worsened in Murree due to heavy snowfall and tourist rush, and the tourist spot has been declared a disaster after more than 20 people were killed in their vehicles.

According to sources in the control room set up to monitor the situation in Murree, more than 100,000 vehicles entered the city, and people parked their cars on the roads and left.

According to control room sources, the power supply in Murree has been cut off since last night.

Sources said that in Murree, people are stuck in vehicles with small children, and people in the cars do not even have food and drink.

Pakistan Army, FC, and Rangers troops called.

A statement issued by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that one thousand vehicles had been stranded in Murree since last night. He said that 16 to 19 people were killed in cars in Murree.

On the other hand, rescue officials said that 21 people had been killed so far due to the blizzard in Murree. A search operation is underway at Kaldana, but there are severe difficulties. There is a lot of snow on the roads, making rescue operations very difficult.


Sheikh Rashid said that FC and Rangers have also been called for rescue operations in Murree, besides Pakistan Army troops have also been called.

He said that all the roads leading to Murree had been closed, only those carrying blankets, medicines, and food items would be allowed to go, and it has been decided to close the roads for pedestrians.

Seven members of the same family, including an ASI of Islamabad police, were killed.

Among those killed in the vehicle due to heavy snowfall in Murree were AIS Naveed and other family members stationed at Kohsar police station in Islamabad.

Sources said that ASI Naveed had taken a leave of absence to show the children the snowfall and died with his family but was trapped in the car and died along with six other family members.

Tourist deaths were also reported between Nathia Gali

Hundreds of vehicles are stranded on the road between Murree and Nathia Gali due to snowfall. Due to being a border area, neither Punjab nor KP government administration has reached the spot.

Sources said that there were reports of several deaths in vehicles at Murree and Nathia Gali, and many people were still trapped in the cars.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Capt. Nadeem said that there were no deaths due to tourists being trapped in the snowfall in Galyat. The local administration makes every effort to open the road and provide relief to the stranded tourists.

Emergency has been declared

Taking note of the situation in Murree, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has summoned top officials and PDMA, and government offices and rest houses have been opened to the public.

The Punjab Chief Minister has requested for providing all facilities to the people trapped in Murree. At the same time, he has appealed to the people to refrain from turning to Murree in the present situation.

The Punjab government has declared Murree a disaster area and declared an emergency, and directed all concerned departments to take all possible steps.

Salt is being sprinkled on the roads to remove snow so that when the snow melts, the roads can be opened.

This year’s snowfall in Murree is being described as the worst snowfall in 10 years, and the deaths during this period are defined as the most tragic event in the history of Murree.

Roads in Murree and Galya are being salted to remove the frozen snow to open the streets when the snow melts.

Government appeals to tourists not to visit Murree and upper areas.

Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry said in a statement issued on social media that millions of vehicles were heading towards Murree and other upper areas.

Fawad Chaudhry said that it was impossible to provide facilities to such a large number of people.
